Illustration Friday - PHOBIA

I'm wondering if anyone else was as surprised as I was to find SO many named phobias....wow! This was actually a pretty educational topic. Lots of phobias from which to derive an idea for this week's challenge, but I was fascinated by color phobias. So intrigued that I took the secondary color wheel and made those color phobias my art. Simple, I know, but I tried to make it a little more interesting with some lettering.

CHLOROPHOBIA = fear of the color green
XANTHOPHOBIA = fear of the color yellow
CHRYSOPHOBIA = fear of the color orange
RHODOPHOBIA = fear of the color red
PORPHYROPHOBIA = fear of the color purple
CYANOPHOBIA = fear of the color blue

There is also, not included in my art:
LEUKOPHOBIA = fear of the color white
MELANOPHOBIA = fear of the color black

I could never look at a list of phobias because I would end up having a lot of them! ;0
But the names are so interesting... And I do love the way you have used Chromophobia to create this illo.

Pretty interesting stuff. Man, I can't imagine having a color phobia. How the heck would you ever avoid a specific color? Cool post, Amy. And thanks for the heads up on that gorgeous 'F'. Beautiful work!

Yes, I have been surprised by this theme! I have learned so much and I had no idea how may phobias there seem to be!!! This is amazingly clever Amy! These phobias really top them all! I would be a very sad artist with these phobias as you probabbly have noticed I'm not afraid of colour, so this would be excrutiating to me. Love this so much in every way, just a reat overall idea, really brilliant!

Awesome concept Amy! I had no idea there was such a thing as fear of colours. I wonder how that could originate? And who thought up all those names? Crazy! Anyhoo, great illustration! I love the simplicity because it communicates your idea so well. Nice work!

Very cool color wheel... at first I thought it was some sort of spin-the-phobia game, where you'd have to act out a particular fear, charades-style. Wonderful lettering.

Thanks Amy :-)
I was wondering if you ever got the email I sent you with Fito's translation?
LOVE your "Phobia"....I've got a bad case of color-love though, so your post just makes me happy :-)

Fear of colors? I never knew that too, human beings really are a strange breed. I like your play of fonts, it looks like a spinning game board.

Time to play "Wheel of Phobia!" Unless, of course, your phobia is Vanna White

Paul Tuller said...

wow - this could seriously traumatize someone if they had all of the phobias you listed above - hahaha
