When I saw "Cake" as this week's topic, I thought about just how many different types of cakes there are, and felt drawing just one kind wouldn't be too exciting. So I tried to come up with a way to incorporate multiple cakes, and wound up not drawing even one (unless you count the one being made).
Thanks to Carla at Anonyrrie for giving me the idea to use this illustration for both "Cake" and Inspire Me Thursday's "Word Art" challenge. More often than not, I incorporate typography/lettering into my designs, and it seemed appropriate that I participate.
Colored pencils and Micron pens.

Your hand done type is really great. I like the concept and illustration of the cake one, but I LOVE the C that is underneath it. It really is beautiful.
Thanks for your great comments BTW.
This is so clean, simple and effective...would be perfect as an illustration for a magazine article or editorial...
very pretty. it has a meditative quality to it.
So lovely! I should have thanked Carla as well. Combining the two topics this week seemed like the perfect joining. You illustration is delightful as always!
Super job Amy. I love how you used the word here in this illustration especially.
Your double entry is outstanding on both sites. This is really nice.
As soon as I saw the new challenge up at Inspire Me Thursday I thought of you :-) I knew you'd come up with something fab! Super...you're very talented! specially with type... Did you study graphic design?

I love your lettering! This does double duty so elegantly...I love how you've words everywhere, but it's all so well composed and seamless. You really are the master of composition and pefect detail. This none's great!
I meant to say this one's great... oops!
Beautiful colors and wonderful font as always! Such a gorgeous illustration and perfect for both groups! Gosh I am always just amazed - your colored pencil work is just divine!
Great composition, mixing the two challenges! The picture should be in a cake magazine! Great work!
I love your lettering work (this and your other letter posts). This illo is so calm and peaceful - very nice colors.
I like how you incorporated the woman preparing the cake in addition to the lettering. I too went through similar thoughts when I saw the prompt.
This is great!
I've been wondering what you would come up with Amy. Very original as usual. I really like the typography - it works!
This is beautiful!! Love the design a lot!! Would make a good cook book page too!!
This is great. Very peaceful with the type setting it off nicely.

great concept and coluring...your work is really effective...I like the intricacy of your typo patterns!
This is just perfect!
I love your mix of the illustration and the words! This and your illo for "Surprise" are my favorites. Jeez, what is this obsession with cake I have??? It's a wonder I'm not HUGE!
This is one of my favorites this week!!
And I second what everyone else has said!!
Another beautiful illustration, Amy. Very accurate drawing, and I like the soft pastel colors that you chose. Thanks so much for your kind comments about Trowbridge. I DO plan on bringing Mrs. T back as often as possible. I enjoy IF so much I couldn't stay away forever.
beautiful and fun illustration, the fact that you don't know what cake she is making also makes it more exiting. nice work!
Very nice. I love the lettering. And wow, who knew you could make a cake without a box of cake mix!
Excellent work Amy! Creative combination of both topics!
Wonderful! Makes me want to bake a cake & then lick the bowl. ; )
Thx 4 dropping by.
Smooch,
The Tart
Yummy! Love your use of color and theme. You really went the extra mile with detail. Well done!
great illustration and I love how you combined the two projects...that would be a great kitchen graphic for recipe cards or a series of prints!
I love how you've listed the different cake names in the lettering. Great!
love the little drawings of the ingredients..I had to go and take a close look!
The melding of typography and illustration is quite cool. Nice job!
This is a really lovely piece. She looks so contented stirring her cake mixture. Such lovely colours too. It looks digital, but I know it's not, it's so interesting how you got the texture on the table to sit so well with the sharpness of the words inside the big 'Cake'. And I love the subtle shading around the stuff on the table too. Very very nice.
...oh, and can i lick the spoon?

this is great i love your lettering as always. love the colors
Yes, but if you mixed all the ingredients for all those different types of cakes together, you'd probably get something interesting.
A-ha! All in one! Nice thought.
I love how soft and inviting your picture is. As delicious as the cake-making looks though it's the words that really make me hungry. Nice piece!
Great idea and really well-executed. I like the whole thing, but I'm especially drawn to the cool wavy hair... Don't know why... maybe a hair fetish or something. Very cool.
Love the colors and lettering. Very nice.
Wonderful layout!
Hi Amy! This is such a cute and delicate illustration! I missed cake subject but I just posted this week's subject illustration :)
really beautiful!
Very sweet illo..and a nice soft style.
Wonderful illustration! Seeing that it will be an all homemade cake then it's bound to be delicious!
Great type here, and I love the pattern you created in your 'C'.
