The Letter A

I had a couple of requests for an "A" (plus it rounds out my own initials), so here it is...

Illustration Friday - UNDER THE SEA

This drawing evolved from a sketch I did about two years ago. Originally, this was the "Aloha Dance." For this week's Illustration Friday theme, I blatantly ripped off the name of the dance in "Back to the Future." I couldn't resist!

Unfortunately, since the original is 17" wide, the scan is showing up really small when I post it (even when I click for a larger version), so I'm including some detail shots. If anyone knows how to get larger (or wider) posts to come out close to the real size on Blogger, I'm interested to know how it's done.

ANOTHER Z

While thumbing through old sketchbooks, I recently found this "Z" that I drew about 5 years ago.

Illustration Friday - SPOTTED

I think I was looking for an excuse to doodle this week...or making a new "Z" for my logo? Either way, this was a fun topic.

Illustration Friday - SPEED

Baseball season is well underway, and I thought the record for pitching speed would make a decent entry this week.

I mostly used Adobe Illustrator to create this illustration.

Reflexology is the practice of stimulating points on the feet, hands, or ears, in the hopes that it will have a beneficial effect on some other parts of the body, or will improve general health. The most common form is foot reflexology, in which the reflexologist applies pressure to points on a person's foot. The foot is believed by practitioners and participants to be divided into a number of reflex zones corresponding to all parts of the body.

Illustration Friday - TATTOO

As far as tattoos go, the old pin-up style is one of my favorites. Here's a pin-up design with a modern surfer girl twist.

Illustration Friday - TEA

I was happy to see "Tea" as the topic, and I had lots of ideas. However, I kept coming back to the same idea: my morning tea ritual with my cat, Maggie.

Illustration Friday - SONG

The Golden Ages of both songwriting and illustration were beautifully married in sheet music art. I tried to pay homage to the many wonderful artists who created these underappreciated works of art during the first part of the twentieth century.

And the song....here's an excerpt, just in case it isn't ringing a bell:

Heaven, I'm in heaven
And my heart beats so that I can hardly speak
And I seem to find the happiness I seek
When we're out together dancing cheek to cheek.

Illustration Friday - SIMPLE

In the age of XBox, PlayStation and everything digital, it's amazing to think that once, such simple toys as these could keep a child occupied and happy....

Illustration Friday - GLAMOUR

I believe that Hollywood glamour peaked in the 1940s. Ava Gardner had not only natural beauty but a mystique that I think equals true glamour.

Illustration Friday - "CATS"

These two cats are the only Scottish Folds with whom I have ever been acquainted. The big guy on the left, Angus McGee (or "Mac" as he is called), belongs to my in-laws; the curious Calico is my cat, Nugget. Nugget is clearly on his turf. And, no, Mac's ears aren't flattened because he's angry, that's just the breed.

IMAGINE

This is for all you cat owners and also those who don't especially enjoy doing household chores. I would like to thank my cats Maggie and Nugget for being such willing models.

I created the "Imagine" type in Illustrator. The drawings were done with Micron pens and watercolor pencils.

Season's Greetings

Finally finished my holiday card design. I designed the lettering first, then redrew it in Illustrator. Then came the snowglobe. I drew the cardinal and blue background with colored pencils, then created the globe base, highlights and snow in Photoshop.
